Jazz doesn't get more glamorous than this! Recorded live at the Olympia Theatre in Paris on 15 April 1961, this wonderful album captures pianist and Newport Jazz Festival founder George Wein leading a superb all-star group through a swinging, relaxed programme in the heart of the French capital. The lineup is magnificent — Ruby Braff on trumpet, the velvet-toned Vic Dickenson on trombone, the wonderfully idiosyncratic Pee Wee Russell on clarinet, and Jimmy Woode on bass. Together they deliver traditional jazz and swing in a manner that's utterly free of cliché — open, inventive, and brimming with the special magic that only live music can produce.
